A New Dawn for Kraft Foods Apprentice!

It was a day of sweet celebration for Sheffield based Dawn Woodcock who has recently been awarded the Kraft Foods Apprentice of the Year for 2012. The annual event was held at the Bournville site, the home of Cadbury chocolate. The success was a huge result not only for Dawn but for Brinsworth Academy of Engineering, who are coordinating the delivery of her apprenticeship.

 

The global powerhouse Kraft Foods has brands that boast Net revenues in excess of $50 Billion, made the decision to reinstate the apprenticeship training programme into the Sheffield gum and candy site for the first time since 1985. Kraft Foods is listed as one of England's Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers.

 

The award was presented by Nick Bunker, President Kraft Foods UK & Ireland. Steve Marshall, Engineering Manager for Kraft Foods Confectionary category explained why Dawn was selected to win the award "Dawn has showed considerable drive and determination that is more than admirable for someone of her age, she has shown great maturity and self belief in her ability to grow and develop into an individual that will be a valuable asset to the future of Kraft Foods".

Kraft has an array of categories including, chocolate, biscuits, coffee, cheese and gum and candy currently have 48 apprentices across their UK operations. The announcement of biscuit investment in Sheffield at the end of 2011 will make it possible to bake Oreo and BelVita biscuits in the UK for the first time, alongside Trebor, Maynards and Bassetts candy.

Commenting on Apprenticeship accolade, Business Development Director Paul Reeves said "We are delighted to be able to be involved with a global business like Kraft Foods, the fact that their strategic decision to bring back apprenticeship training to Sheffield can only be positive to the sector and also provides young people like Dawn with a huge opportunity to build an exceptional career in engineering."

 

Across the UK and Ireland Kraft Foods have approximately 5,500 employees working across 11 locations in the UK. A leader in innovation, marketing, health & wellness and sustainability, the company has continued its commitment to creating opportunities for apprentices by announcing a further 7 new apprenticeship roles for the Sheffield site.
