New E.R.A. for Apprenticeships
Launch of The University Technical College - 16/05/2011
27 April 2011The Sheffield College is delighted to be the sponsor for Sheffield's bid to host a University Technical College. This is potentially a very exciting development for the Sheffield Region, which would create a new, high status 14-19 Academy for employer led teaching of engineering, manufacturing and creative design skills. The launch will take place at Brinsworth Training Ltd on the 16th May 2011.
We are hoping to engage the employers of the City Region at this major event, where we will finalise our vision and set in train a number of workstreams to bring it to fruition.
The aims of this event will be to: agree the vision for the UTC, gain commitment from businesses to support the UTC in a tangible way and set in train a number of workstreams to realise the vision.

Image: UTC - A new way of learning for the region
We seek to involve employers across the City Region in shaping the vision for the UTC, in committing to contribute in a variety of forms and in volunteering to participate in a range of workstrands aimed at realising the vision.
The launch will include short simple powerpoint presentations followed by some table work and then feedback, again, using powerpoint if possible. It will be about focussed effort to bring together ideas to formulate an agreed vision and framework, together with some commitments from participants.
Proposed Sponsor: The Sheffield College
Co-sponsors: Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield, Sheffield City Council.
Partners include: King Edward VII school, Handsworth Grange school, Parkwood Academy (E-ACT) and leading employers in the Advanced Engineering and Materials and Digital and New Media sectors.
The Sheffield College has a strong record of collaboration with schools, universities, employers, voluntary agencies and training providers. The Sheffield College-led University Technical College is well placed to ensure the highest possible quality of provision and to harness the expertise and resources of these partners for the benefit of its learners.
The event will be held on:
Monday May 16th 2011, 10 am - 12 noon, Brinsworth Training Ltd, Sheffield Road, Rotherham, S60 1BN
