Jonathan Gets His Shoes On!
08 September 2010Brinsworth Training are working with local company Greenline Oils Ltd. Operations Manager for Greenline, Jonathan Hoole is about to embark on a very challenging task, the Berlin Marathon and to make it even harder he is doing it barefoot! (Well almost).
Jonathon explains his challenge "Every year, my brother Chris and I try to do something adventurous, whether it’s climbing up a 3000 metre mountain or skiing down a black slope in the Italian Dolomites. This year we have decided to challenge ourselves and run the Berlin Marathon in September. To make all the suffering worthwhile we have decided to run for Charity".

Recent research has shown that running in trainers produces a running stride that goes against nature. Popular trainers tend to have a very thick heel which makes the runner strike the ground with that part of the foot. As a simple demonstration of the damage this can do, you only need to run on a hard surface without trainers striking the ground with your heels. There are now a few companies that have understood the potential market for barefoot running and are producing minimalist footwear to protect against accidental injury when running on glass or other sharp objects.
Jonathan added "I am now running with ’Vibram Fivefingers’ which are like a glove for your feet with little pockets for your toes. I am now happily running 20 km and training for the Berlin Marathon which takes place in September. However, I do appear to be receiving a few odd glances whilst out running! The hard training runs are all in aid of a very good charity. I have chosen Parkinson’s because unfortunately, a member of my family has suffered many years from this incurable and debilitating disease. I will be raising money for Parkinson’s UK and Parkinson’s Italia as I have spent many years living and working in Italy and the UK".
