New E.R.A. for Apprenticeships

29 January 2010

Employers constantly complain that when apprentices return to the company they are unable to make the transition between studying the material from the course and actually putting this into practice in the workplace.

Here at Brinsworth Training we are tackling this issue and arming our students with the tools to progress and develop even after the courses have been completed.

This is done through a hybrid of the current Performing Engineering Operations (level 2 and 3) with the existing Advanced Apprenticeship Framework and the Technical Certificate (VRQ).

The distinct pathways that are offered are:

1.       Multi-Skilling (Machining)

2.       Maintenance (Bias to either mechanical or electrical)

Each pathway is fully integrated to avoid the current duplication which exists in the present apprenticeship framework. We will also deliver Health & Safety, Manual Handling and Business Improvement units, which we believe to be essential in today’s corporate arena.

We have also extended the “off the job” training from 16 weeks to 40 weeks to allow Level 2, Key Skills and a percentage of Level 3 training to be delivered in conjunction with the Technical Certificate to improve the students learning experience, so that when the learner is returned to his/her company they will be able to add value and hone their skills immediately.

From an employer’s perspective the programme is very cost effective.

The National Apprenticeship Service is providing up to 5,000 Apprenticeship Grants for Employers to them to create new places and take on an unemployed 16 or 17 year old apprentice immediately. The grant has a value of £2,500.
