Brinsworth Education

To ensure the UK has the skilled workforce it needs to compete within a global and highly competitive market, the Government published its 14 – 19 Education and Skills White Paper, which firmly placed the future skills and training needs of industry at the heart of its education reforms over the next decade.

Here in South Yorkshire, for the first time in its history, the engineering and manufacturing sector is losing capacity, because of the lack of trained engineers and not just equipment or technology as in the past. As a result the sector needs to recruit and train over 17,000 new employees during the next five years to keep pace with demand. With this in mind Brinsworth Training Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of their new Education Division.

To be launched in Feb 2008 the new Education Division will be offering year 10 & 11 pupils within Rotherham and Sheffield’s Secondary schools, the opportunity to gain first hand experience of working within the engineering and manufacturing sector, whilst working towards a National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).

Brinsworth Training is working with the Special Metals Forum (SMF) and South Yorkshire’s Armed Forces Career Services to produce a new knowledge transfer programme. The aim is to capture the hearts and minds of the sectors future workforce and also to raise awareness of the centres 2008/09 Pre and post 16 Work Related Learning provision.

The programme provides careers, personal development and work-related teaching staff for 20 South Yorkshire secondary schools. The school children are supplied with a ‘free’ careers and personal development Handbook (‘If I’ Course), that kicks into the curriculum and provides young people with the opportunity to prepare for the ‘Real World of Work’ with the support of the local business community across the region.
