Key Skills is an essential dexterity for the work force as a whole; Apprentices need Key Skills in order to function effectively as members of a flexible, adaptable and competitive workforce. Key Skills are particularly useful to people needing to demonstrate ability to a specific level of competency and required by apprentices wishing to obtain a certificate of apprenticeship. They can also be useful to employers who need to ensure that their workforce is capable of performing tasks to a particular level. The course is assessed by the development of a portfolio, which records the work covered including written work and records of talks and presentations. This portfolio is then complemented by online examination for ICT, Application of Number and Communication.
