The Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering provides the best possible preparation to achieving skilled and/or technician status within the industry. It may also, where appropriate provide positive progression to Higher Education or higher-level work. It provides work-based training and development for young people aged between 16 and 24. Adult Apprenticeships are available for others aged 25+.

INITIAL STAGE TRAINING AT LEVEL 2

• This phase exposes the apprentice to a variety of basic engineering processes that will allow them to gain an appreciation of the basic skills and knowledge relevant to a particular sector of employment. This occupies approximately 14 weeks full-time off-the-job in Brinsworth training workshops. The Apprentice may then progress to on-the-job Level 3 training.

DEVELOPMENT STAGE AT LEVEL 3

• During this phase the Apprentice gains all the skills and competence required to perform at a skilled level in a particular job role. The training is undertaken on-the-job in company. The NVQ Level 3 is selected by the company that matches the job the apprentice is employed to do. The Level 3 occupies approximately 2 years, and all assessment is undertaken on company premises. During this time the Apprentice will also complete a Technical Certificate on day release from the company for 2 years Successful completion will lead to the award of an NVQ Level 3.

This course is based at our main engineering training facility, located just off the M1 J34 in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Ideally situated for access from Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster or Rotherham.
